Artist Matt Keegan used Ric Burns's PBS documentary, New York, as the foundation for this dense visual history of New York City. The film was billed as a "seven-part, 14 ½ hour television event [that] explores New York City’s rich history as the premier laboratory of modern life. A sweeping narrative covering nearly 400 years and 400 square miles..." The same chronology and stories are found within Keegan's image-based iteration, but without Burns's omniscient narrator. Readers make their way though four centuries of New York City history with only themselves and their experience as guides. Printed in digital color and black-and-white.
